the truth we hide with masks

I'll put a gold mask on

to come and see you.

You're wearing yesterday's clothes,

I smile while I sip on that bitter coffee-

you said you made with love.

Your house is a mess,

it's obvious you haven't been

home for a while.

I smile,

you smile back,

I can see your beautiful mask,

you're a good liar,

but all I know

is that my mask made out of gold,

can't show you the real me -

the truth we hide so well

is visible enough so you can see,

I'm not who I used to be.
